Start OpenObject on your Mac or a revived Infinite Objects XXL frame. That's where your art library lives and where you curate your collection.

Your art on the big screen
The OpenObject app turns an Apple TV into a display for the digital art running on your Mac or an Infinite Objects XXL frame. It finds a Host on your network and plays its rotation full screen, edge to edge, with no menus and no clutter.
OpenObject for Apple TV is a companion app. It has no art of its own; it displays what an OpenObject Host is playing on your network. A Host is the OpenObject app running on your Mac or an Infinite Objects XXL frame, a small local server that holds your art. Set it up first, then pick it on the TV. See How it works below.
How it works
The Apple TV app has one job: display your art. It simply connects to an OpenObject Host running on your network and displays whatever it's playing.
Open the app and it automatically discovers OpenObject Hosts on your network, or you can enter a Host's address manually. Select the Host, and your art immediately fills the screen.
From then on, the TV simply stays in sync. Continue managing everything from the Host's control panel via the browser on your phone or computer, and your Apple TV automatically follows along: rotation, timing, Pin, Fit or Fill, Sleep Schedule, and Sound.
What plays
Your own images and video, exactly as they play everywhere else: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, MP4, and MOV, shown edge to edge with no borders or interface. Animated GIF, WebP, and AVIF loop while videos optionally play with sound.
A few formats behave differently
Most artwork plays exactly the same on Apple TV as it does on a Mac or revived Infinite Objects XXL frame.
Connected Collections (live, generative, and on-chain works such as p5.js sketches or interactive canvases) are actually tiny programs that generate their artwork as they run. Apple TV and iPad display finished artwork but cannot execute these Connected Collections programs, so those pieces remain available on your Mac or frame. They do not appear on Apple TV or iPad.
For other technical reasons, the uncommon SVG and WebM formats are not currently displayed on Apple TV. They will keep playing normally on your Mac and frame, as those devices use a Chrome browser engine capable of rendering such content.
Private by design
The app talks only to a Host on your own network. There is no account, no sign-in, and no cloud. It has no analytics and no tracking, and nothing you do leaves your network. See the Privacy Policy for the full, short version.
No subscription
The Apple TV and iPad apps have no subscription and no in-app purchases. There is nothing to buy.
What you need
- An Apple TV running tvOS 17 or later.
- A Host on the same network: a Mac, or an Infinite Objects XXL frame, running OpenObject. The app is a display; the Host is where your art lives.
Don't have a Host yet? Start with the Mac app. iPad support is coming after Apple TV, on the same app.
Getting it
The Apple TV app is in the final stretch and is coming soon to the App Store. iPad follows. Follow @OpenObject_io for the launch, and see Support if you need help.
